I feel like I'm on mission impossible mode at the moment.

Yes, I am humming the tune and i type this post frantically but i promised Jon Paul I'd help out with his nifty blogfest idea.

So, following in the footsteps of the Fight Scene Blogfest, and "Love At First Sight" Blogfest, JP is announcing the first annual "Drunk At First Sight" Blogfest in ode to St. Patrick's Day

Here's how it will work:

1) Sign up below.

2) Write a new scene or short story, or dust off an old one, about a love/relationship situation that also includes one or more of the following elements:

---St. Paddy's Day as important event or setting
---Use of Ireland or anything Irish as a setting or prop
---An alcohol related event (party, hangover, cocktails, AA meeting, etc.)

3) Just prior to March 17th (St. Pat's Day), post said story to your blog.

4) On St. Paddy's Day, cruise around the interwebs, drink in hand, and check out everybody's amazing fiction.

That's all there is to it! Sounds like great fun--and in keeping with the St. Paddy's Day spirit. These other great bloggers are helping out with the Blogfest as well:

* The Postman from The Sententious Vaunter
* Bone from Cruising Altitude
* Scott from A Writer's Blog

The DAFS Blogfest promises to be fun for the whole family. No really. The first (virtual) round is on us. Sign up over on JP's Blogpost (links above), and spread the word.

The more, the merrier.

Forced Hiatus

The Laptop is dying.

Currently getting IT people to give it CPR, but doesn't look good.

Almost all my files/music/four years worth of procrastination have been wiped.

So I won't be posting/responding alot for the next few weeks till i get a replacement laptop.

Aw little virus riddled Inspiron 1300 has been good to me.

P.S. if any one has any advice about what type of laptop i should get please give me some - i don't have a clue

Time to Battle

Just wanted to direct people (especially DW) over to Jon Paul's Blog, where he is doing an excellent series of posts. Often to many of us, writing is like going to war, you have to have a battle plan!

Well in JP's BattlePlan Posts, he uses his military experience and knowledge to help you layout a plan for your writing. I highly recommend you drop by his blog and take a look! Gives you a whole new perspective on writing :)

Totally Savage!

This Leap of Faith?

This is sort of a parallel post to this post on the Writer's Chronicle blog.

Recently I've been reading the Social Animal edited by Elliot Aronson. In the first chapter, Aronson emphasises that social psychology research involves a 'leap of faith'. Using the metaphor of Monsieur Grand, he highlights the point that by continuous seeking perfection in our work, we will never progress.

Well, Call me Monsieur Grand!

There is always such a huge emphasis on the hook and the importance of an excellent first line, it often makes me forget that there has to be a second and third line too. I think that the thought of having to create something 'perfect' makes the task of actually writing so difficult.

Why? Because if you seek perfection constantly, you will always be going backwards. It has taken me so long (that its sad) to realise that - yes you're allowed to write utter crap in your first/second/third draft!! It is only the end draft which really counts!

Perhaps it's a lack of confidence, which causes this overwhelming feeling when i click on word or maybe it's the little self-editor that constantly berates and makes me delete my sentences.

But, if the field of psychology/science can allow themselves to make mistakes so those following can improve on their findings, then shouldn't I as a writer allow my first draft to be flawed - so my later writings can improve and consequently progress!

Perfection is a myth, once you stop looking for it - writing becomes alot easier.

Mon Dieu!

My head is dying.

Absolutely killing headache

and its not the sort of ouchy that was the result of too much vodka-ey goodness the night before.

This is the sort of ouchy which results from an office environment with a dash of studious work which involves computer screens and books.

Amazing how i don't get headaches when spend all day reading blogs/watching dvds off laptop or reading books (fiction), but put me in a room and in officey attire and its ouchville!

Aw universe you're a cruel mistress.

So whats does this have to do with the blog?

Well, this blog shall probably stay its random self but I've designated Sunday to be my blogpost day (i.e. going to write blogposts on sunday to post during the week on my non-personal [other] blogs [which there are many - too many]).

Reason being, that my eyes are going to fall out of their sockets and my brain implode if I have to look at this laptop screen for much longer after 8 hours of screeny goodness, let alone type up posts that are half coherent :)

Not to mention after this week, I'm going lala crazy and

a] going to write WIP before i go into work like a masochist (my eyes!!)

b] (i can't believe i'm actually going to type these words) JOIN A GYM and actually (Deep breathe) GO and you know, do that stuff people do on all those TV ads - e.x.e.r.c.i.s.e *shivers*

Seriously as in, actually go to the gym and not just pay the membership and not go (which is my usual way of going to the gym). I'm actually going to go. And God, dare i even say it, I'm looking *gulp* forward to it.

I think i've caught something from someone - like a healthy, exercise virus. I even had a salad today - yes a SALAD (well if it could be called that, I mean, it didn't even have colesaw!)

I'm even going to buy clothes (the none knacker looking ones) - 'gym clothes'.

If i didn't know i was me, I'd swear i was someone else.

Scary Stuff boys and girls.
