Fill in the Gaps: Update

As many of you know (and maybe some of you don't), in March on Moonrat's Blog she mentioned that her friend, Andromeda had decided to make up a list of a 100 books, which she felt she 'should' read and gave herself the space of 5 years and 75% success rate to finish this list.

This idea morphed into the 'Fill-In-The-Gaps-Project' which is a place for people to come, post and discuss their lists and progress.

So i've decided to post a little update about how the blog is proceeding.

It was started on the first of April, so its only a little over a month old, and now has over 60 contributers/members who've posted their lists/progress reports etc.

We have over 40 followers as well.

Currently we're doing 'MiddleMay' which is a 'group read and discussion' about Middlemarchby George Eliot for the month of May, and has been a huge success so far.

So, anyone whose reading, and would be interested in joining up - feel free to pop by the blog, have a look and email me at: emilymcross@aol.co.uk for an invitation.

Remember ALL are welcome.

One more to go . . .

One more CA assignment to go, then i'm finished. . .

Well, until the exams, but at least now i can concentrate on them and my thesis without having to write a 3,500 word essay here or prepare 1.5 hour presentation there.

I'm so totally burned out. Going to be handing in my last assignment on Monday.

Going to take today off though, and watch me some west wing.

hmm mmmm.

Inventive Book Trailer

So, book trailers are everywhere at the moment, I was wondering about the blogosphere and found this post on Janet Reid's blog, about this trailer. Hmmmm, inventive no?

Now, the question is what WOULD you do to get people to read your book? Is Karoke a price you would pay for a readership. In my case i would consider miming (no need to inflict my 'vocal talents' on the public)

Book Quote

All writers know that on some golden mornings
they are touched by the wand -
are on intimate terms with poetry and cosmic truth.

I have experienced these moments myself

Their lesson is simple: it's a total illusion.
And the danger in the illusion is that you will wait for these moments.

New Blog: sweet lord

Ok Ok i know i know,

but i swear i made this one two days ago!!!!

before i admitted myself into BA!!!

Anyhoo, its a poetry appreciation blog, i've started with some of my favourites by Christina Rossetti (and found some great videos of these poems being performed) and plan to have some Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Emily Dickenson too. I'll probably get round to the Irish poets too. But i would love it if people could post comments here or on the poetry blog about your favourite poets? or poems? especially unknowns/unusual poetry?

thanks :)

I think may need to join BA - bloggers Anonymous!!!

i've made another one: The official Website of Emily Cross, its mean't to be an 'official website' with no moany posts about Real life, just about my progress as a writer etc.

Ha! its only an excuse for me to look at pretty blog templates and download them and play with html......

why are there so many pretties out there :(

Its a sickness!!!!

Cindy Pon's Silver Phoenix Competition

Many of you may have heard of Cindy Pon's debut book 'Silver Phoenix' over on MoonRat's Blog? Well she's offering a great competition where you have the chance to will a book voucher, original art and a signed copy of her book, and of course i'm shamelessly entering :)

the blurb :

on the day of her first betrothal meeting--and rejection--ai ling discovers a power welling deep within her. she can reach into other people’s spirits, hear their thoughts, see their dreams…and that’s just the beginning.

ai ling has been marked by the immortals; her destiny lies in the emperor’s palace, where a terrible evil has lived, stealing souls, for centuries. she must conquer this enemy and rescue her captive father, while mythical demons track her every step. and then she meets chen yong, a young man with a quest of his own, whose fate is intertwined with hers. here is a heart-stopping, breathtaking tale for fans of action, fantasy, and romance--of anything with the making of legend.

And i know many of us love a good book trailer, this was designed by very talented Maddison

and heres some praise:

“I couldn’t put it down. Your heart will be racing, and you’ll be
aching for more. An addictive gem.”
~Meg Cabot, author of The Princess Diaries and Airhead series

“Beautifully written, lush, exotic, and romantic, with a gutsy heroine who defies convention to fulfill her destiny—SILVER PHOENIX has it all!”
~Alyson Noel, New York Times Bestselling author of EVERMORE

List update & summer list

So about two months ago i made up this list, and i was meant to review it at the end of March (whoops) - well i guess May will have to do. (interesting how i always remember these things when i've something horrible due)

  1. Get more members for the Writer's Chronicle Forum (numbers increased)
  2. Contact Published members and start getting 'the published' section more 'alive' and organised. PROMOTION being the key word - like interviews/book reviews Tried a few authors but will need to get serious about this.
  3. Set up the first monthly competition on the Writer's Chronicle (maybe with a prize!) We've had our first winner in March, april looks a bust though
  4. Write a new topic for the Writer's Chronicle Blog - maybe making the posts more specific and smaller (thus easier to read)
  5. Toying with the idea of an Ezine for WC writers - might see about that one (didn't do this but WC blog fits the bill)
  6. Gather more research for my book, journals and articles etc. Didn't do this either

Heres my new list for the summer.

  1. Get EVEN MORE members of the WC - currently at 70, i'm going to aim high and try for 200 by end of the summerr
  2. Get 50 blog followers (lol - i'm doubting this will happen)
  3. Gather more research for my book etc.
  4. Get more interractive with WC, such as interviews etc.
  5. Once my course is over, create a proper outline for my WIP and start writing
  6. Poetry - both reading of others and writing of my own.
  7. Attempt some short stories and try and see if i can get them published.
  8. Get serious about reading other peoples work
  9. Complete at least ten of my 100 booklist
  10. Learn GIMP (photoshopping)
  11. Learn website design
  12. Don't watch tv till after 5/6pm or dvds (i.e. west wing!)
